A provocative documentary by German filmmaker Gabriel Baur
about drag kings begins in New York at the legendary Drag
King Night at Club Casanova. Here Baur interviews and documents
the lives of woman who are art – or full time drag
kings. The drag kings of New York meet in clubs and change
lustfully into their male alter egos, exploring male eroticism.
In London and Zurich, we see women experiment with hormones
to accelerate their masculinity. Everybody knows about drag
queens but it seems that drag kings reject the traditional
male-female polarity even more, which raises many questions
how gender works in our society. In Venus Boyz masculinity
and transformance as performance, travels through a borderland
where individual’s gender should never been taken for
granted and demonstrates that gender is only what you make
it.
