Freedom to Marry is
a documentary collecting varying perspectives of the extraordinary,
history-making marriages that took place between same-sex couples in
San Francisco in February 2004.
Whether you read about gay
marriage, or waited in line for one, Freedom
To Marry captures many charged moments
of this political hotbed. Hear Margaret Cho speak out against discrimination
at a State Capital rally. Watch as “founding mothers of the movement”
Pyllis Lyon and Del Martin become the first legally married same-sex
couple—having waited more than fifty years! Assemblyman Mark Leno
takes on the historic task of marrying gay couples in City Hall, and
straight, married, and Catholic Mayor Gavin Newsom tells why he made
it possible.
Plays with A
Day Like Any Other, which was directed by
Gregory Sax and runs 12 minutes. Portland, Oregon couple, Mark and Jay
celebrate their 21st anniversary by getting legally married.
Author,
Dr. Davina Kotulski and director Greg Sax will attend the screening.
