Carla runs away from home with plans of traveling to France to study fashion. When her luggage is stolen she is forced to take a job on a construction site so that she can earn money to finance her journey. Carla is befriended by Lucie, a girl she meets on the job. They room together in a houseboat. Through their friendship Carla realizes what it means to have a place in life, and for Lucie a new, bigger world unfolds. Shortly before continuing her journey Carla discovers a secret that theatrens her dreams.
