| Zach (Trevor Wright), a year out of high school, works a dead-end job as a fry cook in San Pedro, California. He draws in his notebooks and skateboards around town stenciling guerilla artwork on walls. When he has time, he surfs with his best friend Gabe. Forced to give up art to care for his nephew while his sister Jeanne (Tina Holmes, “Six Feet Under”) stays out all night partying with assorted men, Zach feels trapped and defeated.
When Gabe’s older brother, Shaun (Brad Rowe), returns home on the rebound from messy break up, Zach and he strike up a friendship. Brad is drawn to Zach’s selflessness and talent and Zach finds a needed confidante and campion in Shaun. They surf, talk, and hang out at night drinking too much beer. Soon their relationship deepens and Zach is forced to reevaluate his life and ambitions.
With gorgeous surfing photgraphy and strong perfromances from Rowe and Wright, Shelter is a smart, sexy, romantic story finding your place in the world. |
